Periwinkle Reviews

Have stayed in Bamburgh many times, Periwinkle has the been the closest to a home from home, warm, clean and very comfortable .
Lindsey
A lovely, cosy cottage, beautifully clean and set up. Very comfy beds. It had everything we needed and was in an ideal location. We know the area well, having lived not far away and have previously stayed in No. 6. Parking would be a bit tight for larger cars but we managed with our Mustang. Had a great few days, convenient for walking into Bamburgh, the castle and of course the beach!
Harley
We holidayed and Periwinkle cottage from 5th to the 10th of October. First class accommodation in a lovely setting close to the castle and village, comfortable and relaxed, nothing to fault or criticise, tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard comfy bed and great shower. we will be back. Some highs, the weather always helps the fish pie in the Middle Castle Inn, the crab sandwich in Crastor, the beach, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castles Some lows, Berwick on Tweed, the fish pie in the Lord Crewe and the dogs in the pubs.
Sandra
Periwinkle is a lovely cottage with plenty of space and nicely decorated inside with lots of nice extra touches to make it homely. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the two bathrooms were clean with nice fluffy towels. There was good safe garden space at the rear. Both gardens would have benefited from a bit more TLC. Off road parking at the rear was a bit tight for our large car. The cottage is well situated for visits to Bamburgh and the Northumberland coast and country.
Lovely cottage , great location , really comfy beds and bedding. Would love to stay again
Lovely cottage in great location and perfect as a base for exploring Northumberland and Scottish Borders. Cottage was very well maintained and well equipped, beds were comfy. Short walk to the pubs and restaurants in Bamburgh. Would definitely stay here again. Only wish it was dog friendly.
Bamburgh is our happy place and we have stayed in many different cottages over the years. We had a great week in the cottage as a family of four. It is beautifully designed by the owner however it needs some attention in various different places. The negatives 1. Double bed in master. The bed has succumbed to come to wear and tear my teenage son had to be careful turning over so not to dislodge the slats underneath the mattress. I reported this to maintenance during our stay. 2. Mattress in master has a ridge down the middle which makes you feel like youre going to roll out of bed. It needs replacing. 2. Front of cottage isnt very appealing and needs some TLC. Weeding, removal of rubbish, painting exterior. 3. Clothes line is old and worn. Its also part covered by the over grown trees making it difficult to hang washing out to dry. 4. Garden furniture is ready for the tip. We had to use our picnic chairs when sitting in the garden. We had lovely weather and werent able to dine in the garden due to the old and tired table and chairs. 5. Most of the windows dont open. 6. The two cream upholstered chairs in the lounge whilst theyre aesthetically pleasing arent comfortable to sit and relax on. 7. Water escapes from bath making it near on impossible to bathe therefore we used the showers. The positives . 8. Perfect location near the dunes 9. Beautifully decorated interior with lovely bathrooms. 10. Very clean cottage with well stocked kitchen. It would however be useful to have some plastic platesbowls for young children. 11. Nice welcome pack which was very much appreciated. A great cottage! A few small tweaks would make it even better.
We love coming to Periwinkle, such a lovely cottage. It was super clean with very comfortable beds. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. The outside space is nice but could do with a bit of maintenance especially the table & chairs not very comfy or clean. Also the addition of a bbq would be amazing. The tumble dryer was also faulty, no hot air. We very much look forward to coming to stay again!
A lovely cottage. Very comfy beds and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything that could be required. Very quiet area and ideally placed. Lovely rear garden also. Would certainly recommend this cottage. Thank you
Great cottage, beautifully furnished with everything you could possibly need for a week away. Fabulous location next to the beach and 5 mins walk from Bamburgh. Parking to the rear of the property and a lovely garden to sit in when the sun shone.
My heart sank when i arrived via the satnav , none of the images show the front of this cottage , what you see is the back from the service road , the front looks like a army shed so i do feel a bit ripped off , location is great and some great walks but over priced , i could go on and anyone who wants to see pics of what this cottage REALLY looks like email me . aroomwithaviewtiscali.co.uk

Would be nice if there were a couple of loungers or deckchairs for use in the garden
Pauline
Beautiful little cottage perfect for exploring the area. Only a couple of suggestions to enhance the stay a lamp is required in living room as lighting is quite bright and the bath plug doesnt seal so needs to be replaced. Fabulous place none the less. Definitely recommend to anyone!
Joanne
Great stay everything we needed, beautiful cottage and added bonus of great weather blue skies and sunshine in November! Loved Bamburgh great base to tour this stunning area.
Andrea
We would have given 5 stars, however, on arrival at Periwinkle it had not been serviced from the previous occupants! !! Getting in touch with anybody from Sykes or Northumbria Cottages was abysmal! No out of hours services at all with either, not really good if you have a major problem. Did get a message saying someone from the emergency team would call within 20 minutes, guess what? no call! We managed to find mattress & pillow protectors for the beds instead of sheets and pillowcases and a couple of scratty towels! Had to divvy up the meagre bit of toilet roll between the four of us, no shops open on a Sunday after 4pm in Bambrough or Seahouses! Cleaned the two toilets and sinks, left the showers. Called Sykes or Northumbria Cottages the following morning at 9am and they said you could see that we had logged a call! Anyhoo, a very nice lady appeared about 10am and was quite mortified at what had happened, no apology from Sykes or NC though!!! Apart from all of that, Periwinkle is a really nice cottage with good amenities. We were warm and cosy and really enjoyed it. A very good base to go from for all the things we wanted to do and see in the area.
A well laid out cottage, with good furnishings, in a perfect location. It was obvious that this was once a beautiful, well cared for, property but sadly it is now lacking TLC, maintenance and a deep clean. However, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Fabulous cottage , would have been good to have oven gloves and some of the pans don't work on the induction hob. Otherwise lovely.
Wonderful location for the beach and beautiful building. As a previous review states the listing is inaccurate as the castle is not visible from the property. Within walking distance to Bamburgh Castle and village. The house benefits from onsite car parking. Overall the house is well equipped, some tired aspects for example the mattress in the double bedroom has a raised ridge down the middle, it's time for it to be replaced, was even visible with duvet on the bed. Outdoor patio set has seen better days. Cleaning throughout was not to a high standard, we stuck to the dining table on our first evening meal. Property instructions were clear and thorough.

This is a comfortable and wellthought out cottage. It is nicely equipped and the WiFi is excellent. The location is great for the coasts and historical sites of Northumberland. The listing talks of attractive and captivating views of Bamburgh castle from the dining table. This is not true in the summer because bushes hide it. Even in winter the castle would appear quite distant. From the window you can see the garden which is a good size and tidy but not particularly attractive. Apart from the inaccurate listing I would recommend this as a place to stay we had a fantastic holiday. NB it was quite noisy during the day because the neighbours were having a lot of work done on their house.

Probably the best cottage we have ever had. The thought and effort that has gone into making this so comfortable and convenient are outstanding. The location is excellent.
Teresa
Really comfortable and cosy cottage that feels bigger than it looks.
Periwinkle was everything we hoped for and more . With a path just opposite onto the dunes and beach , with an excellent seafood mobile food trailer was perfect .An excellent base for exploring the stunning Northumberland beaches , we will return
Lovely cottage an excellent base for walks along the coast which was our aim. Well equipped, with a super log burner. Beautiful area and we would love to return to Periwinkle
Very well equipped and comfortable cottage in an excellent position.
Great locationcan walk through the dunes to the beach. Lovely cottage. Nicely decorated and well equipped. Perfect for 2 couples.
Warm, cosy and comfy, excellent location. Had everything we needed for a relaxing break.
Property was well equipped
Great location, very comfortable. Facilities excellent.
Superb location. Spotlessly clean. Furnished and fitted to a high standard. Everything in that you could want. WiFi that actually worked!! Garden with chairs and table for late afternoon and evening drinks. Much exceeded my expectations.
