The Hollies Reviews

The Hollies is located right in the centre of Bamburgh, an absolutely stunning location. The accommodation is excellent, it was the ideal size for our extended family stay. This was the second time we had stayed here, we will definitely book again.

We had a lovely week celebrating Christmas at The Hollies. It is a very well equipped comfortable house for a family gathering in the heart of Bamburgh. We had contact with the owners ahead of our stay and they were really helpful in describing what was there so we didn't have to bring too much with. us. They had even put up a Christmas tree and decorations. There was lots of information at the house to help us work the kitchen appliances easily. Our Labrador loved the beach and dips in the sea and we made good use of the local pubs in the village. The butchers as ever never disappoints. Thank you so much for a fantastic stay at this lovely perfectly located house in the heart of the village. The parking bay was much appreciated as was help for our other family cars from your neighbour Celia.
Lovely accommodation in a great location right in the heart of Bamburgh. The property was really well equipped, spotlessly clean and decorated beautifully for our stay over the ChristmasNew Year period. The owners provided great communication and were really helpful, before, during and after our stay. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend to anyone and would happily stay here again
The cottage was a great location for exploring all Northumberland has to offer including the fabulous beach at Bamburgh, with eateries & watering holes a very short walk away. The cottage itself was a good size and comfortable on the whole. If you stay here bring a decent corkscrew because theirs is flimsy and we couldnt get into the wine! Also fetch oil, salt, pepper etc as no condiments are left. I appreciate some self catering places do and some dont leave them from previous guests. We also had to buy loo roll on day one as we were only left one full roll between us with some smaller part rolls, this is no drama but makes it easier to come prepared but there is 3 loos. This was fine but just meant running to the shops earlier than planned. Theres a good size Co op in Seahouses. The house has some good quality kitchen appliances and furniture making for a comfortable stay with plenty of crockery and pans. It also Includes a nespresso coffee machine and there had been a few pods left. All the beds were comfortable although the master & one of the twin beds squeaked badly when you turnedmoved. We booked as a dog friendly stay but in the end didnt take the dogs for various reasons. There was no spare dog bowlstowels as Ive experienced in other dog friendly places but theres a secure yard at the back & the garden at the front is secure if gate is fastened. On arrival there was a small welcome gift of 50ml of milk, a small jam, chutney and a packet of biscuits. There was also a small package of local tea & coffee. A few negatives that if rectified would make it 5 stars cobwebs, very dusty cobwebs everywhere and lots of thick surface dust on tops of picture frames and in tops of rads with clumps of hair in odd places clearly only having had a quick hooversurface wipe round. We understand a few cobwebs but these were down the side of all furniture, ceilings & bathroom & hadnt happened between guests. The bedspreads on 3 of the beds were filthy, stained & a bit whiffy. Clearly not changed In between guests we didnt check the others so I would vote checking these before use. Could have done with a couple of spare extra blankets for winter as only had the bedspreads & the bath towels were of a small size but we managed. Front door could do with a door mat inside & some coat hooks near the front door as we were walking through the house with wet coats to the rear porch. No fuel starter pack was provided despite being in the listing advertisement, in the guest book & on the email confirmation. carpets could do with a shampoo as had dirty marks on them. this house is right next to a hotel & therefore every delivery you hear from 6am ish as they deliver down the side of the house. downstairs toilet smelled badly of drains for the whole week. master bed has been repaired at some time and needs tightening as squeaks and creaks when you move and the headboard wobbles. Overall would possibly stay again due to its location, but theres plenty of other cottages to explore in Bamburgh.
Beautiful house in a fabulous location. The enclosed garden was great for our fourlegged family member. 5 Star cleanliness and the welcome pack of Northumberland goodies was a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend!
Property in a great position . Very comfortable & well equipped. Some cleanliness issues ie mouldy tiles grout in main bathroom & drainy smell in kitchen when any appliances used . Other than that it was a lovely cottage & we would return
Caroline
What a fantastic house! We were impressed from the moment we stepped into the garden. The house is immaculate throughout, well equipped, beautifully furnished and decorated, with lots of space to spread out and relax. There is a small courtyard to the rear, which catches the sun for a good part of the day and a dedicated parking space the latter is like gold dust in Bamburgh! We had two of the kids and two granddaughters with us for the first few days and everything we needed in terms of cots, high chairs etc. was to hand all high quality kit and squeaky clean. We had two bathrooms, three toilets, so no queues! The bedrooms are all well lit, nicely furnished, with very comfy beds and lovely bedlinen throughout. The kitchen is fabulous everything you need is here. A great cooker, microwave, dishwasher, a washerdryer and a roomy fridge and freezer. Plenty of light floods in from the courtyard and a there's a very hand porch for boots, shoes and sandy stuff. The whole place is well suited to family occupation plenty of board games, and a spacious front garden which is fully enclosed. Charlie the dog loved it! As if all that wasn't enough, as you step out of the door, you are mere yards from a selection of places to eat and drink, and a few shops selling all the basics that you need if you're self catering. Because the house is set back slightly from Front Street the main street, you don't hear any noise from these places at all and yet they are virtually on your doorstep. This is a definite rebooking for us Bamburgh is a gem of a place and the castle is simply surreal as you look down the main street towards it, you get the distinct impression that a special effects team was hired to generate and project a huge backdrop.......utterly stunning.

Had a great 4 nights in Hollies at the end of February. The property is spacious and spotless and the location could not be better. We were just a few steps from Bamburghs excellent pubs and restaurants and only a couple of minutes more from the glorious beach and castle. Ross, the owner, was very friendly and informative.
A beautiful house in an excellent location, just a short walk from local pubs, restaurants, shops, the beach and of course Bamburgh Castle! Superbly equipped, very homely and a nice secure garden for the dogs, who also had a great stay! Fantastic to find such a lovely house that allows 3 dogs without having to compromise on quality.
We really enjoyed staying at The Hollies. It is a lovely, spacious house which retains it's period features but has all the modern facilities that you'd expect. The garden and courtyard were a bonus. It's location in Bamburgh is ideal, so handy for strolling into the village.
The location of the house in Bamburgh, just round the corner from the fabulous butchers, fish restaurant, gastro pubs etc. etc., couldn't have been any better for us! The house itself was lovely, clean and spacious. A perfect family home from home. We hope to return someday!
Lovely dog friendly cottage in the middle of Bamburgh, our seventh stay so it must be good! Just a short walk to great pub food with beautiful beaches all around. We will be back soon.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Hollies. The location could not be more perfect directly behind the Victoria Hotel, but beyond that it was well appointed, clean, and cosy. We used the open fire regularly it was February! and it easily accommodated the seven of us who spent four nights there plus our dog. Ross and Ceri were attentive and thoughtful hosts and we would love to return.
Very comfortable cottage with plenty of living space to accommodate 7 adults and 2 dogs we only had 5 adults during our stay. Very close to all the lovely pubs and the beach. TV with access to most channels was a bonus. Front garden was very pleasant to sit in for any afternoon sun.
Had a lovely week at The Hollies in August great location, easily walkable to the beach, castle, pubs and lovely restaurants. Enclosed garden and yard both perfect for dogchildrendrying off wetsuits etc. Hope to be back. Thank you
Gareth
Fantastic house, really enjoyed our stay. Truthfully a bit nonplussed by the negative reviews for this property house was very clean, spacious & a brilliant location just off Bamburgh Front Street.
Perfect holiday home in central Bamburgh superb dogfriendly garden . Everything we needed was there . If you are staying its parking bay 8 , first left after the wee row of houses !
Claire
Fantastic week in this beautiful house. So handy for all Bamburgh has to offer, clean and well equipped. The garden and yard were great for enjoying the sunshine. We will be back!
A visit for my husband's 60th birthday with friends. Our first visit here but not for our friends, they'd been before. New bathrooms and decorated since their visit, so all new and fresh. Really warm and cozy on our arrival. Kitchen very well equipped, not short of anything. All very clean and well catered for. Fabulous stay, would definitely return.
Jennifer
House very cold when we arrived increased thermostat from 15 to 30 but took 3 days before it was comfortable in all rooms please ensure house heating is put on before guests arrive. Radiator in Bathroom is not working. A full log basket would be nice the fire was laid but only 2 logs in basket as it was Christmas not easy to find local supplier with stock A carton of milk would have been nice to go with the coffee and tea provided especially as shop hours not regular as was a Christmas booking However the house was lovely and well equiped.
We were made very welcome and Celia was very helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and tidy ample space and the children felt relaxed . The property was in a beautiful location. The bedrooms were lovely with comfy beds and lovely fresh sheets and bedding. Plenty of equipment in the kitchen though we mostly ate out. Nice front garden to sit or play in . Only a few minutes walk to the beach or castle . Food shopping can really only be done in Seahouses 3 miles away but there are plenty of good places to eat close by with excellent food an£ friendly service. There was always plenty of hot water available. The cottage was excellent, would definitely recommend and stay there again in the future.
Lovely old property for family holiday. Cosy but spacious and very well equipped.
Very comfortable and convenient well located!
Excellent, excellent, excellent. This is a fabulous property and has everything any visitor could need. Definitely coming back for a second stay.
Warm, comfortable, just right for everyone. Good proximity for walking dogs, having coffee and ice creams in the village, visiting friends and basic shopping without having to drive.
Fantastic location in the heart of the village. Beautiful house, with character and a welcoming rambling garden frontage. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to make full breakfasts with ease every morning and delicious evening meals using local produce from the garden shop and local butcher. Lovely clean comfortable beds. Bathrooms clean...loved the bath and towels provided. The house is spacious but still cosy. Loved the open fire which we settled down beside every evening after massive walks along the amazing beaches! we loved it ....sooo friendly and cosy and hope to return.
A spacious property perfectly located if, like us, you love Bamburgh and the stunning Northumberland coast. Easy off street parking and a home packed with everything you could need made this an idea choice for a week away.
Comfortable, clean, well equipped and conveniently situated.
An excellent family holiday at the Hollies. The house is both centrally located but tucked away at the same time. Easy access for the many food options Bamburgh has to offer for such a small village.
