Sand Dune Cottage Reviews

Nicola
The best thing about Sand Dune Cottage was its fantastic location we enjoyed watching incredible sunsets and spending evenings on the beach whilst also being within easy reach of the castle and pubs in Bamburgh. An ideal base for us to explore glorious Northumberland, which did not disappoint. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped if not a little tired and shabby windows were tricky to open and close, decor felt dated and cluttered. The hot water was too hot to be used safely, it was scalding! I hadnt realised we would be located quite so close to a busy main road, and we never ate outside as the table was right by the road and in the shade in the evening great for our dog, but not for us! We were bothered by the frequent smell of woodsmoke emanating from the property next door if he wasnt using a noisy circular saw to cut wood, he was burning it at all hours of day and night. Whilst we slept with windows open due to the hot weather, the smoke was not welcome, and seeing as BBQs are not allowed at Sand Dune Cottage understandable though disappointing for us it seems crazy that he is regularly burning large quantities of wood in his Grade 2 listed timber home! Thank you for sharing your family holiday home with us. We have an EV and would look for a property with an EV charging point as a priority next time. We drove up to the services on the A1 and used their Tesla chargers when required.
We had a very happy week at Sand Dune Cottage. It was a good size for 3 adults and 2 children, well equipped including toys, games and books for all ages and beach equipment and all the equipment we needed for meals. No hunting in drawers for graters, sharp knives or peelers to find none. Every meal we went to cook had the right things available. It was very comfortable, and there was the option to eat inside or outside depending on the weather. The beach was a short walk over the dunes, the castle, lifeboat museum and cafe with play park in Bamburgh went down well with adults and children and we also enjoyed excursions to Lindisfarne, Dunstanburgh Castle and a boat trip from Seahouses to the Farne Islands. The only disappointment was that the Heavy Horse Centre at Hay Farm was closed on Fridays which was when we'd hoped to go, but hopefully we'll be back.
Joanne
A charming, clean and comfortable cottage. Spacious and well equipped. Great for two couples because it has two bathrooms. Stunning location with the beach over the road and just down the road from the castle.
There was an issue with flies for the first 34 days, we ended up buying a fly swat and must have killed up to 20 flies a day. We have stayed there for a few years now and have always found it a home from home. Will probably be back next year too.
The property is lovely and very well sited. We appreciated how clean it was but would suggest a change of washing powder as my daughter and I both had rashes from the very strong biological powder that was used.
We enjoyed our holiday very much the cottage is cosy and well equipped the ... We enjoyed our holiday very much the cottage is cosy and well equipped the location is perfect for exploring the Northumberland coast we will be back
Shelly
The cottage was perfect for our holiday. Great location & worked well with our children & dogs. Very comfortable and decent showers always a good thing! The cottage has absolutely everything you need. The kitchen was very well equipped. There were also plenty of cleaning products & equipment available if needed. We enjoyed our stay so much we immediately booked for next summer.
We had a lovely holiday at Sand Dune Cottage which had everything we needed and was very conveniently situated near to the beach and lots of places to visit.
Vaughan
Whilst the location of the holiday home is absolutely perfect for exploring Bamburgh Castle and surrounding area, we were disappointed with the property itself. The cleanliness was not up to standard and the cottage itself is tired and cluttered. Overall we would expect a higher level of attention. To charge such elevated prices comparable to and mirroring the more modern and contemporary properties in Bamburgh, the cottage needs a significant overhaul.
Loved this cottage! So well equipped. Very comfortable and ideal location.
Louisa
Fantastic property in a great location
Jessica
We had a really lovely few days saying at the cottage. It was a fabulous base with an amazing view and a great garden for the dog. We found it really comfortable and spacious and very well equipped. The views across the sand dunes were beautiful and the location was perfect. A really wonderful place for a break.
Nichola
A lovely cottage in a great location with everything we needed. We were sad to leave and hope to return another year
Beautiful cottage in a perfect location. There were 6 adults and we all had plenty of room. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots pans and cutlery and all the bedrooms were so comfortable.
Great cottage equipped with everything you need. Even with a bad knee it was an easy walk to the town and castle. Extremely relaxing.
Had a great time, will be returning next year all being well.
We had a lovely stay at Sand Dune Cottage the location is perfect for the beach and the centre of Bamburgh. Seahouses is also a very short drive for access to larger shops. The cottage was very well equipped with everything you could ask for in the kitchen plus things like beach towels, dog bowls, games and books which were a useful addition. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. We made use of the candles on night 1 as there was a long power cut so great to find those. A couple of things we felt could be improved the microwave makes a terrible noise when in use. The toilet in the main bathroom doesnt flush properly and this needs attention.
It was our second stay at sand dune cottage and hopefully not our last the cottage is ideally situated with the beach at your doorstep and pubs and the famous copper kettle tea room less than a ten minute walk away also the bus stop is at the cottages front door . The cottage itself is ideal . Warm and cosy, spotlessly clean and fully equipped the owners really have thought of everything.
Great location, lovely and warm cottage. Really enjoyed our time at Sand Dune cottage
Great cosy cottage, perfect location. Would benefit from more space in kitchen cupboard for our own food etc. Bit noisy from road traffic but overall really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.
Catherine
Lovely cottage very comfortable. Beautiful location
Raymond
We think we have been coming regularly to Sand Dune since 2004 which speaks for itself. we have booked for May 2004.
Lovely property in a great location. Just a short walk across the dunes to a beautiful beach which all of us including our dog absolutely loved! We will be back to this area and this cottage! Thank you!
Beautiful cottage, very well equipped and in a stunning location!
Denise
The main bathroom toilet did not consistently flush, this will need some attention. Apart from that the cottage is perfect in every way and we will most certainly book again
Katharine
Really enjoyed our stay. Cottage was well equipped especially pleased to see some decent sized wine glasses and really comfortable and cosy. A wood burner would make it perfect although only for aesthetics as the cottage is really warm and some decent kitchen knives would be useful. Otherwise a really positive stay, customer service was great when we locked ourselves out and it was fabulous being so close to the beach and some terrific places to eat.
We&39ve had it all, rain, wind and sun. Lovely warm and well equipped cotage to return to each day when we did venture out. Walk through the dunes was well worth it for the view alone.. We will definitely be back here again. Thank you Steve and Amanda for letting people share your gorgeous your gorgeous cottage.
We have waited a year for this holiday and it hasn&39t disappointed. Lovely well equipped clean cottage. Bamburgh is always brilliant, thank you!
This must be one of the loveliest cottages we have ever stayed in. Beautifully and thoughtfully equipped. Thank you. We were blessed with blue skies.
Sand Dune Cottage has been perfect home from home. It&39s warm and cosy and we will miss walking to the beautiful dunes and glorious beaches and sea only a stones throw away. The neighbours are very friendly as are everybody. Highlights was the holy Island trip with the delicious lunch.
Lovely cottage in a great location if you want to be close to the beach.
Perfect, simply perfect. The cottage was just right for our holiday. It was dog friendly with having enclosed front and rear gardens ensuring the dogs could go outside safely. The rooms were beautifully decorated in keeping with the coastal theme and were clean and well furnished. I would recommend this cottage and will certainly book it again for future holidays in Northumberland.
The cottage is thoughtfully set up and perfectly situated. The beach and shops are easily accessed, as is a range of places in which to eat and drink. It is close to many places of interest and offers a great holiday in every way.
Lovely property, easy walking distance of Bamburgh and just a hop to the beach will be back for a longer break maybe next year.
We had a lovely stay at Sand Dune cottage, great access to the beach and everywhere was very accessible. The cottage was lovely and warm, beds comfortable but firm. Really happy with our stay.
This is our second visit to Sand Dune Cottage, and it has been refurbished to an excellent standard. The on demand heating is lovely and warm after returning from a cold walk along the beach. Lovely enclosed garden front and back of the property, ideal for dogs.
