Salty Dog Reviews

The property was very nice and we have stayed there many times in the past. Overall very clean and tidy but an issue with a bedside lamp and socket that needs attention plus some light bulbs need changing in the kitchen.

Weve been here several times. Its very homely and has everything we need. Its near the dunes and beach and within easy walking distance of beautiful Bamburgh village. Thank you.
The cottage Salty dog was wonderful, it ticked all our boxes for a perfect place to stay, it was very dog friendly with a secure garden for them to play in, well equipped and comfortable and spacious . The location was perfect with plenty of amenities and walks on the door step. Thank you very much for our goodie bag that went down a treat cheers Sue and Geoff

This was our second stay at the Salty Dog. Overall it's a very nice cottage and the beds are very comfortable. Lovely enclosed garden. Could do with a bit of updating, some of the kitchen equipment, mainly frying pans, could do with replacing, obviously some holidaymakers haven't cleaned them very well and the surface has become damaged. The twin room could do with a good clean behind the beds, full of cobwebs, which we cleaned as far as we could reach. Very well situated, lovely area, we've stayed at various Armstrong cottages over many years.
Thanks again for a fantastic week at the Salty Dog. We have stayed here several times now and always enjoy our visit. The property is ideal for me, my husband and our dog. The beach is literally across the road and over the dunes, its an easy walk into the village if we want to have a meal at one of the many pubsrestaurants or go to one of the cafes, it has an enclosed garden so our dog is secure and the property has everything you need. We hope we will be able to visit again next year!
Katrina
A lovely, exceptionally well equipped and comfortable cottage. Nice big enclosed garden at the back. The location is superb, a quick walk over the dunes to the beach. We hope to stay again.
Very comfortable and clean and well equipped cottage. Beds very comfortable Garden excellent for our 2 small dogs very secure and good size Close to beach Bamburgh and Seahouses equals ideal location We definitely hope to return next year
One of the best holiday keys we have stayed in. The cottage was cleanapart from some cobwebs on ceilings, rooms were spacious, kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the garden was terrific. Only a stones throw from the back and Bamburgh too. Fabulous for children and dogs. They are working on the houses at rear and front so was rather noisy from about 8am but cant be helped. Would be helpful to know though if this could be a problem for anyone. We will return!

Lovely spacious, comfortable property in a great location, well equipped with everything you need. Generally it was very clean but the ensuite toilet floor could have been improved. Also needs a new kettle as the on off switch doesnt stay pressed minor things. Would stay again.
Richard
Lovely cottage, well equipped and beautiful location.
Elizabeth
A warm and comfortable house with everything you need to feel at home. Ive already booked a return visit.
Nicholas
Lovely location for beach, village and castle. Warm and cosy cottage. Big enough for our family of six plus furries. Great facilitiesequipment , everything we needed was there. Wholeheartedly recommend.
This property is well furnished. It is however probably one of the dirtiest holiday cottages we have stayed in. Baths, showers and loos had been cleaned but on closer inspection there was built up dirt, dust and cobwebs that have been allowed to accumulate throughout the cottage. You never felt clean staying in this property. Bed linen and pillows are worn the mattress protector we used was in need of a good wash. The kitchen was poorly equipped and certainly not what could be described as a selfcatering property because the cookwear was so poor it looked unhygenic to use. There were four frying pans in a drawer all of which need disposing of and replacing and likewise for the non stick pans. Roasting tins are also in an appauling state and not suitable for use. Other pans need a good clean. The oven and hob were in a reasonable and clean condition. A lot of the crockery is also well past its useful life with the glaze scratched and worn on many items. The extractor above the hob is filthy and clearly has not be cleaned for a long time. We have some photographs to evidence our thoughts on this property. In conclusion, the cleaners of this property can have no pride in their work, the owners should be embarrased about renting a property in this condition and Northumbria Cottages clearly do not carry out periodic inspections of properties that are clearly not as described. The area around the property is stunning but our holiday marred by the conditions we stayed in.
This will definitely be our last time, as our grandchildren are 18 now. Q

This is the third year we have stayed at the Salty Dog and we have just booked for next year so you can tell that we like it. It is a lovely comfortable cottage and ideal for my disabled Mum.
We have had another great holiday staying at the Salty Dog in Bamburgh. This cottage is ideal for me and my husband and our dog as it has an enclosed garden, is situated close to the beach and is also within walking distance to Bamburgh village and castle. It is comfortable, spacious and provides everything that you need for your stay. We have already booked a return visit next year and look forward to our next holiday there!
Victoria
Salty Dog is well equipped and in such a great location. It is also a great size and is very comfortable. We had a great holiday and hope to be back.
We had a lovely stay at Salty Dog and really enjoyed being so close to the beach. We had picked a single storey due to taking our elderly parents who have limited mobility and it would have been helpful to know about the couple of steps leading into the property. Otherwise it was a great stay!
Salty Dog is a very nice cottage but the windows need replacing in the ensuite bedroom, the seals have gone and they are very misted up and dirty. The left towel radiator in the kitchen bathroom does not get hot.
Vincent
Have stopped at Salty Dog on numerous occasions for 20 years. Its always been great and a credit to the current and past owners, long may that continue.
Elizabeth
A very comfortable property with everything we needed for our stay. The location is very handy for visits to many other places. This is our second visit and we hope to return.
We loved it. So much space for just the two of us and our little dog. Really well equipped too the owners clearly love the place and know what's important to guests. We have been to Northumberland many times and would definitely choose Salty Dog again.
Elizabeth
This cottage felt like home. It has everything we needed and great care has been taken in the choice of pictures, furnishings, ornaments etc. to make it feel special. It was a privilege to stay there. Thank you.
Heather
A very warm and comfy cottage. Fully equipped with everything we needed and we liked having the operation leaflets available, especially for the induction hob. The private parking space at the rear was handy as the lay by was full most days. Garden great for dogs though we did have to clear up a few 'piles ' that weren't our dogs. Had trouble getting in doors as obviously the wet weather had swelled wood, used back door all the time but coped. Great spot and would definitely book again
A beautiful cottage in a perfect location. Clean and homely. A stones throw from a stunning coastline. Highly recommended.
Been going here for years. Next year might be our last. Grandchildren are 17 now.
We enjoyed our week in Bamburgh. This was the second time of staying in Salty Dog and we noticed a few changes had been made. The dvd player was no longer in the lounge, which made family viewing of a dvd in the evening impossible. The tumble dryer had been changed to a washer dryer, and this broke down while we were there. There is no longer a rotary airer in the garden, so the soggy washing I was left with while we were waiting for a repair had nowhere to be pegged out, other than a small flimsy clothes horse that kept blowing over in the wind, thus soiling the wet washing. It was not good. I have to praise the maintenance though, as the machine was fixed later that afternoon. The beds were relatively comfy and the kitchen well equipped. The positive things far outweigh the negatives though. It's a lovely cottage, great area with lots to do. If they toggle a few minor things about the cottage it would be absolutely perfect. We would stay again.
Alexander
Wonderful location, wonderful cottage with everything we needed, clean, comfortable and helped make a great holiday
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Salty Dog. It is very comfortable and well equipped with everything that you could possibly need. There is an enclosed garden which is great for our dog. The location is ideal for us as the cottage is close to the beach and is an easy walk into the village of Bamburgh. We have already booked to return next year.
Fabulous cottage in a great location. We've stayed in a few Armstrong cottages and this is one of the best. We were blessed with great weather which helps. The new sofas are extremely comfortable. We'll be back.
Generally very happy with accommodation, but not having a clothes line was rather disappointing. We were told that old one rusted and wasnt replaced, so we ended up borrowing one from a neighbour.
Stuart
A well equiped and comfy property.
Salty dog is beyond what we expected, much larger with 3 full size bedrooms ,very comfortable living room and a fully equipped kitchen . The rear garden is secure with a large lawned area and patio complete with tables and chairs. It's a 10 minute stroll into bamburgh by either the roadway path or the Coastal path .
Andrew
This is our 4th stay at Salty Dog and well definitely be back. We love the location and its a well equipped, its our happy place. Several things have been upgraded since our first visit. The beds are very comfy, and the shower room off the kitchen is lovely now. I would say further improvements would be new sofas in the lounge, theyre looking tired and not overly comfortable. We had a lovely New Year at Salty Dog, a great way to start 2023. The champagne was a lovely touch, thank you. We have already recommended it to friends. Staff at Northumbria coast and country cottages are always very friendly and helpful.
Excellent, comfortable, welldesigned accommodation. Clean, decorated to high standard. Homely feel. Superb location, close to dunes and amazing Bamburgh beach. Couldn&rsquot ask for more.
Comfortable and very well equipped cottage in a great location. Walking distance from Bamburgh but nicely away from the crowds. Beautiful beaches within easy walking distance. Highly recommend
Loved this cottage, cosy, all the amenities and really felt like home. Wonderful big garden, perfect for outside dining and so welcoming for dogs too
A homely, comfortable, spacious, light and airy cottage with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday away from it all. Well kept spacious garden and patio too. Our party of 6, plus little dog, all had a fabulous time. Would use again without hesitation!
