On first impressions the lodge looked ideal with a lovely view of Bamburgh Castle and was conveniently situated to explore the area . However the cleanliness of the lodge was worrying , which I can see was a problem with a previous reviewer only one month ago ! Obviously the owners and Sykes have taken no steps to ensure the complaints have been addressed which is worrying . It was most definitely not a luxury lodge and having spent many holidays both here and abroad , I am well qualified to know what luxury should mean. There was only hanging space in one room and no chest of drawers. The other two rooms had chest of drawers and no hanging space. The freezers drawers were dirty with hairs as well as dirt presents . Utensils dirty , duvets , pillows and protectors stained . Baking trays dirty and some should definitely have been replaced . Dust and dirt various areas in lodge . Skirtings badly chipped and dirty and various marks on walls . The paintwork should be assessed and repainted as necessary . We never used the freezer or baking trays , so we are certainly not going to clean other peoples dirty equipment or indeed pay such an amount which we would have expected to include hiring a cleaning company to maintain the luxury tag! To top it all the electricity failed while we were getting ready to go out which was very inconvenient. We were not disappointed with the style or position of the lodge but that should have been reflected inside if the description of luxury is to be advertised properly . Im afraid we wont be recommending which is a great pity. We have taken photographs of all that has been mentioned, if the owners or Sykes wish to dispute anything but as they havent acknowledged the last person to complain I wont hold my breath for a satisfactory response. .

My wife and I were really looking forward to our 4th stay at Brada lodges. This was our first stay at Shearwater lodge and booked as a ruby wedding week away. On arrival the lodge looked amazing with a view of the castle being better than the photographs. However our opinion quickly changed on entering the lodge to find A bucket and mop filled with filthy water greeting us inside the entrance hall , crumbs and dirt at the side of kitchen bench, erect clothes horse in main patio window Red wax cheese wrappers covered in hairs next to side settee Main bedroom side drawers covered in thick dust Draw containing half used steroid cream Used dirty make up wipe behind family bathroom bin Guest guide made no reference to appliance user guide, unable to use induction hob for 2 days until box found on at back of 7 foot tall integrated fridge freezer covered in dust Used glasses cleaner and receipts from previous guests in fireside bin Worst of all, whilst thoroughly cleaning on our last night I removed fridge salad tray compartment only to find staining , dirt and what looked like dried blood all along where tray would cover would cover it !! , our food had been in the fridge all week !! This lodge is described as a designer luxury lodge, but cleanliness was disgusting and despite emails,calls and texts to Sykes the contact number and Sykes contacting the owners, no one wanted to listen and take ownership I have never in 40 years had to complain about a property either in the uk or abroad but cannot believe the cleanliness or lack of it of a lodge holiday costing over 1600 We will return to Brada lodges next year, but not with Sykes and certainly not a Shearwater Lodge the owners were given every opportunity to listen and take action during my stay but have chosen not too and clearly have no understanding of cleanliness and looking after their customers Photos to evidence issues

The lodge was stunning and surpassed our expectations. It was amazing to wake upto a sunrise over Bamburgh castle every morning. It was suitable for our elderly mother and 2 labradors without any headaches. Have booked for next year!

Wonderful location with stunning views of Bamburgh Castle sofas were super comfy and made it easy for relaxing watching movies also loved the wine glasses It was peaceful and quiet in the area a lovely walk down to Budle Bay and then onto Bamburgh or even the walk direct from the location into Bamburgh over the field There were a few dirty pots in the cupboard but this isnt the owners fault probably other guests not cleaning up properly The only other thing I would say about the stay was I would have expected a little more luxury and attention to detail in the accommodation to reflect the 5 and cost for example luxury thick towels as the towels were so thin maybe more luxurious bedding and some more wardrobe space as only one wardrobe for all guests and finally it could do with a bit of paint touching up here and there

A beautiful lodge. View of Bamburgh castle was spectacular. We didnt have pets but couldnt tell that pets were allowed when we were there. A bit wear and tear we felt paintworksplashes on walls but these are minor details. Towels werent very plushfluffylarge which I feel would tie in with a luxury lodge. Like I said, these are minor details. It was a home from home and we had a fantastic time. Welcome pack was good. Fantastic

Shearwater lodge sits in a quiet location just minutes from Bamburgh with a beautiful view of the castle. The lodge is bright, airy, modern and fully equipped with king sized beds in two rooms. It also has great WiFi and bifold doors onto the deck. This area of Northumberland has so much to do with castles, gardens, beautiful beaches, islands, sea cruises and more. It is easily accessible to Berwick and Alnwick which have supermarkets and closer by there is a Coop at Belford. Standout restaurants for us were the Potted Lobster and the Black Swan Inn at Seahouses everywhere is dog friendly too. The only downside is lack of parking, and it is expensive. Would go back and would highly recommend Brada Lodges Shearwater in particular for the view!

It was a lovely place to stay in. It was clean and well maintained. Did have a problem with a smell from the bathroom in the twin bathroom but it got sorted the same day I reported it. The view of Bamburgh Castle is lovely . I felt the outside decking could do with a good clean or a lick of paint . I would definitely recommend it though and would happily stay again .

Fabulous hi spec lodge sited within an easy walk to Bamburgh. A lovely welcome package was there on arrival. A truly comfortable stay in a great location. Loved by both us and our dog Alf. Would recommend and will stay again.

We had a great time at Shearwater Lodge. The Lodge itself is lovely and comfortable with amazing views, plus a great outside decking area. Kitchen was really well equipped too. Its location is great for exploring the area beach, Bamburgh, Seahouses etc just a short drive. And if you have dogs there are plenty of public footpaths right near the lodge that take you over fields and reach the coastal path with some onroad walking. Alnwick Castle was great to visit and we had great meals at Potted Lobster and Elan. We will be back! Note for owner one of the single duvets was really thin, probably needs replacing. Some of the pots and large dishes were not clean, just needed a soak dishwasher.

The actual lodge met all my expections and lived up to the brochure pictures and descriptions. It was very dog friendly. The location was nice and quiet, perfect for visiting the many attractions along the coast, Bamburgh castle and beach was less than 10 minutes drive away. The beach and dunes are perfect for anyone with a dog to exercise.

We had an amazing week stay at this beautiful lodge. The enclosed decking was perfect for our dog and a great place to enjoy a drink looking out at the wonderful view of Bamburgh Castle. The lodge was very well equipped and the fans provided were a god send in the hot weather we had! The little touches in the lodge were perfect and it felt very homely. The only thing we didnt seem to get was the welcome pack for our dog which was mentioned in other reviews but the welcome pack for us humans was a nice touch. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful lodge, high spec with fantastic view of Bamburgh castle. Would definitely return as luxurious home from home accommodation. Everything you need and shower and bath was fantastic and easy to use. No negatives but constructive feedback hot tub would be a welcome addition, toilet roll holders very flimsy and falling off wall, bed in master bedroom Could do with firmer mattress as fall into middle of bed. Rules and regulations lists are the strictest Ive known. These are minors, please dont be out off or think accommodation is not satisfactory as overall the lodge is beautiful, clean and of a very high standard and would definitely recommend and return to same lodge.

Absolutely loved our stay at Shearwater! The lodge has all you need, and more. Very impressed with the high standard of cleanliness, the location and fabulous views. Would definitely return!

Overall a really beautiful place to stay and wed love to go back. We didnt have pets but really wanted to stay here. We didnt see any signs of dogs having stayed which is a definite plus as we were concerned about this doggy smells. Welcome pack was great and info before arrival was spot on. Only minor points to note towels are very thin and poor quality. Some thick fluffy towels would add to the luxury of the beautiful lodge. Mattresses could be thicker because they are free standing beds and not divan. Some free standing clothes rails would also be a welcome addition, as we had nowhere to hang clothes in two of the bedrooms. We did note a slightly unpleasant smell in the main bedroom, possibly drains, which may need attention. We needed to leave the window open all the time when we were there to combat the smell. The cottage is really beautiful though and the view of the castle is absolutely spectacular Outside seating areas were great. This feedback is for the owner only

I had to repair bed support in third room. Shower over bath was unusable. No provision of washing liquidtablets for dishes. Welcome pack was a nice touch but having a bread maker available with no suppliesinstructions was frustrating. The property was lovely with a great view.

Cleanliness issues. Several stains on bottom sheets and on mattress which was discovered after cover was removed on leaving.photos available Oven looked clean but found when it came to use the oven very dirty and grimy with caked on grease on the bottom and sides which needed a thorough clean. Instructions for use of appliances should have been more prominent rather in utility room cupboard hidden amongst cleaning utensils.

One of the best lodges we have stayed in, very clean and comfortable we loved it. The welcome basket for us and the welcome pack for the dog is very thoughtful thank you. Perfect location too. We will definitely be booking again.

Lovely very comfortable property in a gorgeous location. The lodge had everything we needed including a very nice welcome pack. Thank you. The weather was also lovely so we were able to explore the beautiful coast and countryside that Northumberland has to offer.

Two niggling issues were attended to within a few hours. Lovely lodge and fantastic location. However, heating the water did take a while if we all had showers 4 adults so may take longer with kids and baths perhaps.

Thank you for providing the most perfect holiday accomodation. My husband had a fall and fractured his pelvis 6 days before we were due to travel to Northumberland but thanks to the location and facilities at Shearwater Lodge we all had a very enjoyable and relaxing week. We will definitely be back ....

Thank you for a lovely stay in your cabin. Everything was so thought out, it was really comfortable and clean, and I felt it was a really special place. The location is amazing, so many great walks right from the doorstep, I loved the sheep and cows in the field, and the wild flowers in the hedgerows were amazing. It was such a relaxing spot to appreciate nature, unwind and forget the hustle and bustle.

The property was well equipped for our stay we would like to thank the owner for the bread and tea bags etc and logs the home was brilliant. The view is excellent and very comfy thank you

I thoght the lodge was lovely and set out well. It would have been more beneficial if I had received the digital welcome pack before we had arrived but it was delayed, however, I contacted the owner who gave us the WFI code but other informayion would have been helpful. There were only enough logs for one night, we had to buy more. There weren't any bin bags other than the ones that were in the bin. The hot water went off on Saturday morning so not all of us could get a hot shower.
