Castlewood Reviews

Very spacious comfortable house, though is in need of new pillows! Downstairs bathroom and games room in the garage were extremely cold! Radiator not working in bathroom and no source of heat in the garage. Overall, Castlewood is in a prime position and I would certainly recommend this accommodation.
Nathaniel
We will definitely be back to stay again. Disappointing that the fire was not working as that is one of our points for choosing a property when we come to Bamburgh. Also the bathrooms were freezing and couldnt get the radiators to heat up the rooms. These were just little niggles and didnt detract from the fact that this is a great place to stay. Really well equipped, nice welcome hamper and didnt need for anything. Perfectly situated in our favourite part of Bamburgh next to pubs and restaurants.
Natalie
A really lovely property. The kitchen was probably the best stocked kitchen of any holiday rental weve had. Lots of amenities, utensils, washing powder, plenty of dishwasher tablets etc. Comfy beds, it was very clean and everything was in a good condition. The kids and husband loved the games room. Perfect location in Bamburgh. We honestly couldnt have asked for anymore. Weve tried to book again for next year and its already booked!
I'll start with the positives, as there were more of those than negatives. We found Castlewood very comfy. Beds were lovely. Lots of storage space. Very nice kitchen with large fridgefreezer and lots of storage space in the cupboards. Nice utility room with good appliances. The location is excellent. Just a short walk to everything Bamburgh has to offer. Would advise to prebook tables at the eateries. The Potted Lobster is a musttry! Love what they have done with the Walled Garden. Really great for families and food is good there. As to the negatives. All to do with the property. One of the drawers in the twin room broke as soon as it was pulled out. This was not fixed while we were there, the reason given was they didn't want to disturb us. Fair enough, but it meant less storage space for clothes. We had some rain while we were there and we had some clothes that couldn't be tumbled. No problem I thought as there was a clothes airer. I tried to erect it, but it was broken, only three legs, so was pretty useless. There were no manuals for the appliances, so had to use guess work to use them. The house was fairly clean, but there was dust in the main bedroom and behind the chest of drawers there was a blister pack of pills on the floor. Obviously hadn't been moved to clean behind before we arrived. A few more mugs in the kitchen would have been nice. But other than those niggly little things everything else was fine. I would recommend it as long as they fixed the things I mentioned.
We had a lovely stay. We had everything we needed.
Louise
This was our third visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it again the addition of the table tennis table was excellent. Probably an oversight but no kitchen roll or cleaningdish cloths to wash up with. my only other comment is as before please put a waste bin in the bedroom! We met the owner Michael, who was lovely. Already looking at booking to come back cant say better than that!
Richard
Despite a small problem with the hot water which was resolved by the owner, we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Castlewood. The property is a beautiful design in a beautiful location. The beds were very comfortable, we would have appreciated a lower tog on the duvet, 13.5 in the start of summer is too hot for us. On the whole a great property.
Yvonne
This was a really large property in a prime location with good parking facilities. We booked as a party of four, two adult and two 17 year olds. On arrival the house was presented well and very clean, the kitchen was well equipped, I would have liked more mugs, but only thing I could literally moan about, there isn't really much of a garden but we knew this beforehand and the beach is a 10 minute walk and the green 2 mins so not an issue, we went to the local pubs most evenings all really nice, The Middle Inn the cheaper one for food but fabulous food. Bamburgh is extremely dog friendly I was super impressed by this, beaches dog friendly and locals seemed super nice, would visit again such a lovely house and coastline so much to see and do here.
Trevor
Excellent, thanks, and will stay again.
Beautiful house in a great location. Spotlessly clean and really well equipped. Would love to stay again.
Louise
Our second time at Castlewood and we have had a lovely time again. Very clean, warm and comfortable house. A shame that the owners no longer provide a welcome basket as the goodies were appreciated, and a bottle of milk would have been very useful to make drinks after a long journey. These are minor points and would certainly not stop us coming back again!
Robert
We really enjoyed our stay at Castlewood, location was perfect, the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. We have visited Bamburgh many times and this is probably the best accommodation we have stayed in. We would definitely like to stay here again at some point.
House was comfortable for our family, great location and having parking on a quiet street in Bamburgh was great. However there are a few things that need to be addressed if we were to stay there again. The house was dusty and had not been cleaned well. The vacuum had not been emptied and there were empty glass bottles left in the utility room presumably by the previous guests. Also the shower height control for the handset was broken making only the overhead shower available not great for the ladies who didnt want wet hair with every shower There was no plug in the kitchen sink we had one delivered from Amazon. And the oven was possibly the worst weve experienced in many years of cottage stays. Also it wasnt clear in the listing that to get out to the outside space it was through the garage and down a flight of stairs. We had planned to use the space but it was not practical for us, would have been helpful to know this beforehand If you can address these issues we would stay there again. Happy to discuss if that helps the owners improve.
Property was lovely. .could have been a litle bit cleaner ..we hoovered round ourselves as there was a lot of top dust and hair on the floors & shower Could do with a few more cups mugs and for the occupancy no of the house Definitely need a bath mat has we had to keep using and washing the hand towels! Other than that we loved the property We thought it would be nice to have a visitors book too
Elizabeth
Absolutely amazing house. Really spacious & immaculately clean. Location great, just a short walk to the beach and local amenities Just be aware that dogs arent allowed upstairs, which isnt in the listing. The only thing Id suggest this house needs is a bath mat, otherwise fantastic! .
Barbara
A lovely, spacious, well located house in a beautiful village.
Andrew
Fabulous holiday home. In fact the photos on the website don't do it justice. Really well equipped house and very comfy beds. Also very clean and fresh, wouldn't have known dogs had stayed there before us. Loved the open plan layout and the little room before the utility was ideal for our dog to sleep in at night. Ideally located to enjoy all the delights Bamburgh has to offer. Only small niggles were the fire is a bit temperamental although thankfully stayed lit for the power cut on Easter Saturday which affected the entire village. The locks on the loo and bathroom can actually lock you out which happened with the downstairs loo but thankfully managed to sort it through the open window. Glad it wasn't the bathroom! Also we all found the duvets extremely warm. However we wouldn't hesitate to return and we'll certainly recommend this house to our family and friends. Thank you very much for the lovely welcome pack of Easter goodies. It was much appreciated.
Richard
The property was beautifully presented and we were welcomed with a very generous Christmas hamper. The location right in the village is perfect for dog walks and enjoying Bamburgh's bars, restaurants and of course majestic views. A great place to stay. Our thanks once again to the owners.
Perfect house for our family get together. Thank you.
Lovely stay here, i was impressed with the comfort and cleanliness of the property, it was as i would expect it to be. The welcome pack was a nice touch and we would definitely stay here again. The gas fire did only stay on 5 minutes then time out so that would need addressing as does the detachable shower head in the shower as that was hanging off. I know the owners were a bit dubious about Dachshund's so i hope any fears they had regarding chewing etc have been reassured by our fabulously behaved and well trained little ones. Also they are too short to jump up on furniture or go upstairs so added bonus.
Shelagh
Spotlessly clean very warm comfortable. Friendly neighbours. Did have problems with the fire even after following instructions but would book this house again. House reasonably priced booking fees etc from Sykes expensive.
Gordon
The property was exactly as described and was perfect. A great location in a busy town which suited us perfectly. Our 2 dogs felt right at home and everything was just ideal. We will be booking again for next year.

Castle wood was lovely arrived back on Thursday afternoon to find a van in drive ... Castle wood was lovely arrived back on Thursday afternoon to find a van in drive men up on roof couldn't use upstairs to shower before going back out for about an hour slight inconvenience also front seat broken couldn't use but not to say cottage isn't lovely thank u for our stay blankets on sofas I assume for dogs were abit musty smelling if u don't have dogs we didn't
Beautiful house, perfect for us, in a lovely quiet area. Comfortable lounge and plenty of room in all the house. Loved the welcome biscuits, snacks and treats. Everything was clean and well looked after. Location was fabulous for the beach and castle and all that Bamburgh has to offer. Definitely recommended
Kirsteen
Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home we throughly enjoyed our visit. The living areas and bedrooms were well decorated and beds comfortable. Lots of drawer space in all rooms. Single wardrobe in the double room would be a bonus The location was excellent and having parking for two cars was a bonus. We would definitely stay again. The only reason for maintenance being marked down a little was, there are a few badly chipped dinner plates we were able to work round this as there were only four of us. Overall a fantastic experience and we would 100 recommend your property to a friend. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and very much appreciated.
Generally very good, we enjoyed our stay & were very happy with most things about the house. We were though disappointed with the following Inadequate curtainsblinds so that at 0500 the bedrooms were flooded with light. Quilts were a bit on the heavy side which meant we were a bit too hot, better to add a blanket rather than try to cool down. Exact number of wine glasses, mugs, etc, there should be an oversupply. We were disappointed with the rear outside seating area which we didn't really use, we saw the photos & it just looked a bit bigger & more accessible. Overall though we were pretty happy with our choice
Hannah
Beautiful house in a perfect location. The house felt bigger than the pictures do it justice there were 5 of us staying and a dog but it never felt cramped. Great washing room and the garage was really useful as and entrance after a sandy day at the beach! Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home. From the Harrods x
Richard
Great house, very comfortable and the Christmas decorations added to the lovely feel and made the house very festive. The property is in a superb position and we enjoyed all Bamburgh had to offer. We would definitely book this property again. Many thanks
We had a very happy and comfortable stay at Castlewood over Christmas. Perfect location for us in Bamburgh and certainly all that we could have wished for. Katy
